| In September, 2005 Home Tutoring Business was launched. It was really quite by accident that I began HTB. Three years earlier, I was a brand new entrepreneur, just starting out with my own in-home tutoring service in Southern California, where I still live today. In the summer of 2005, one of my clients asked me if I would speak to her adult daughter in Baltimore, Maryland. Her daughter was interested in the tutoring business, but had no idea where to begin and needed some advice. I gladly shared my business plan and helped my client’s daughter begin her own business (which is thriving and expanded to the Annapolis area). I realized I could market what I knew and loved doing to mentor and coach others begin a potentially lucrative home-based business. Thus, Home Tutoring Business was born.

Ten years ago, I retired from the corporate world. I was relatively happy working full-time and making decent money, but I was bored and wanted to be home with my four year old daughter. I quit and soon after bought a Club Z In Home Tutoring franchise in Massachusetts, where I lived at the time. I quickly discovered my twenty years in the corporate world had paid off. I was used to working hard and I hit the ground running and so did my business. I was busy immediately. I actually had time to drive my daughter to pre-school and pick her up almost everyday. After three years of consistently being one of the top producers for Club Z In Home Tutoring, I sold my franchise and relocated with my family to Southern California.
One year later, on June 1, 2002, my new company, Bright Apple Tutoring and Educational Services, Inc. officially opened and once again, my business took off immediately. I was thrilled to really be independent and truly my own boss – no franchise fees or royalties this time!! I turned a profit within ninety days and have never had a month in the red since – in fact today my income has far surpassed the money I was making as a Corporate Executive.
I have found a niche that is invaluable to parents trying to assist their children do better in school. The convenience of a pre-screened tutor coming to their home and tutoring from their children’s school curriculum has proven to be beneficial if not essential in today's competitive society. Class sizes are growing and teachers are more stressed than ever trying to manage a classroom full of kids all at different levels of learning.
My business plan has proven to be the right mixture of business acumen, marketing expertise and the ability to relate to parents who want to help their kids in school but either don’t know how or don’t have time. Living in one of the most expensive states in the country, I am still able to contribute financially to support a family of four (we now have two daughters) with my income. I work hard, but I work from home and I make my own hours. Some weeks I work twenty hours, some weeks I work forty hours, but I always work when I want to, not when someone tells me to. I am involved in my children’s life and can attend their school concerts, sports events, take them to doctor’s appointments and spend quality time with them and my husband.
